Sophie Rondeau, LAPC

Licensed Associate Professional Counselor

I am a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor (LAPC) and earned my Master of Education in Counseling, with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, from William & Mary. Counseling is a second career for me; before becoming a counselor, I worked as a librarian for 20 years. I have a deep love for learning, which makes the field of mental health an especially meaningful and fitting career path for me. I bring curiosity, care, and respect for each person’s story into my clinical work.

I have experience supporting clients with substance use concerns and co-occurring mental health challenges, trauma histories, grief and loss, and relational difficulties. I have also worked closely with women navigating substance use and co-occurring mental health needs, with attention to the roles of trauma, safety, shame, identity, and recovery. My clinical background includes individual and group therapy, as well as experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Seeking Safety, Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), CBT, mindfulness, behavioral activation, motivational interviewing, and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT).

My approach is strengths-based, compassion-oriented, trauma-informed, and guided by an attachment lens. I also recognize that systems, environments, and life circumstances can have a significant influence on mental health, and I work to support clients as they navigate barriers that may affect their well-being. I work collaboratively with clients to create a supportive therapeutic relationship, clarify goals, build practical coping skills when needed, and foster greater understanding, efficacy, resilience, connection, and meaningful change.
